From Office Life To Wildlife
Chris Brinlee Jr sat in his office in Santa Monica, and found he couldn’t focus on a damn thing.
Even though he had only moved California just a couple of years ago, Chris found that he was feeling as if he wasn’t in the right place; he didn’t belong in the city.
So he began setting out every weekend to explore what he could. He found different places to camp throughout California. He slept under the stars at Joshua Tree, and he hiked pretty much every trail you can think of hiking in the state.
But there was a whole world he hadn’t seen, and he knew he had to do the unthinkable…
He quit is cushy 9-5 advertising job and began planning
He left the busy city of Los Angeles, California, and headed to the North Cascades where he climbed the snowiest mountain in the world.
From there he went to Norway and watched the sunset while perched far out on an epic ledge.
He made his way to Iceland, where he nearly died on a glacier.
Then to Nepal, where he vomited after summiting a 20,305′ Himalayan peak.
And finally he went to South East Asia, where he was surrounded by his favorite cuisines 24/7.
Chris wasn’t used to this kind of traffic
Each adventure forced Chris to embrace discomfort
Our ambitions were simple enough: Climb Iceland’s second highest and most scenic peak, Hrutsfjallstindar (1,875m) and if we were up for it, make a traverse to climb Iceland’s highest peak, the active Hvannadalshnukur volcano (2,110m). What we didn’t realize is that Iceland was going to deliver much more than we had bargained for.
An 8 day trek through Nepal is not exactly comfortable….
But each adventure held an experience that would forever remain unmatched by any other
He and fellow traveler and friend, Daniel Bruce Lee, got to drink mountain water straight from the source.
And were astounded by the beauty of The Northern Lights
He hiked through the Vietnamese jungle to explore the world’s 3rd largest cave.
And climbed rocks in Thailand
“Now I’m back in LA – and man, this place is weird.”
We don’t doubt it!
